Jessica Bay is an experienced Educator, Communicator, and Researcher who has a great deal of experience communicating with students at multiple institutions and organizations as an instructor. I place my research at the intersection of media industries and fan studies. My PhD research examines the use of fan practices in the marketing campaigns of American film studios with a particular focus on marketing aimed at the young fangirl.
This research flows pretty naturally from my two previous MAs. At the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada I completed an MA in English where I discuss a connection between digital self-publication and fanfiction in the genre of urban fantasy (“Re-Writing Publishing: Fanfiction and Self-Publication in Urban Fantasy“). My first MA is in Popular Culture from Brock University in Ontario, Canada where I studied blockbuster sequel sets and the industry of Hollywood (“The New Blockbuster Film Sequel: Changing Cultural and Economic Conditions Within the Film Industry“). I also have a BA in Film & Video Studies from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada.
